Shoot Report – Peter Saich

There was a good turnout of members for the annual Handicapped pairs competition over seven stands despite the low temperatures all morning. Andy and Glen had produced another well thought out layout with a good variety of targets.

There were some for everyone to hit and a couple that caught out even the top shots, especially stand 1 where 2’s and 4’s were common A Class scores. Andy had cleverly made stand one 5 pairs as he thought that we would need a couple of pairs to get tuned in and hit them and he was not wrong!

Top score of the day was 51 from Jason Stredwick and even he missed six targets on stand one!

Second were Nigel Foreman and Gary Evans on 50. Particularly remarkable as Gary has somehow got himself into B Class – Handicap committee have been notified…..

In the Handicapped event, the cards were selected at random to give a total pairs score. Sixteen members (around half of those shooting) achieved their average or higher to give them a total of 60+ so the handicaps seemed to be exactly right.

There are no class or individual prizes for the January shoot, but bragging rights for the highest combined score and handicap go to Junior Otis Oakford with a total of 67.73 after a personal best round of 35.

After all the calculations and checking of dodgy addition on the scorecards, the top pair were Charlie Palmer and Gary Evans with a combined total of 133.29. In second place were Matt Oldland and Otis Oakford on 130.46.

December Shoot Report – Peter Saich

We had our usual good turnout for the Christmas Handicap shoot and it was great to see some members returning after an absence including Andy and Jan Wallace, and Alex Spooner all attending for the first time this year. Thanks to Andy Willett, there was another great layout over 7 stands – Did you spot the named stands theme – Congratulations to Alex Blackwell who was the first to notice that they were all named after tracks off the Dark Side of the Moon album by Pink Floyd. There were stands including Breathe, Time, The Great Gig in the Sky, Us and Them and Any Colour you like. Alex was disappointed that Money had been missed out so I have taken the liberty of adopting that for the raffle which raised £125 profit. Thank you all for your generosity in donating prizes and purchasing tickets.
Could we incorporate a ‘Name the Album’ competition into future layouts?

The final class winners of the season were:
AA Jason Stredwick 52, just ahead of Andy Willett and Glen Boxall with 51.
A Class Alex Blackwell with an excellent 49 – Obviously inspired by the music.
B Class Ian Parish on 48 – another great class score and C Class Albie Collister with 36.

In the Handicap competition, Alex Blackwell triumphed again and won the Warsop Memorial Trophy with 69.55.
Runner-up with 68.75 was Ian Parish and third was Graham Winter on 68.38. Well done to anyone who scored 60 plus, signifying that you shot over your average.

Thank you to everyone who helped make today a success, including the Committee who organised the Handicaps, Raffle prizes, ordered Pizzas, made trips to dispose of cartridges etc. and thank you to everybody who helped set up, put away, collected Pizzas, folded raffle tickets etc.

November Shoot Report – Peter Saich

We were back at Clandon this month and had a great turnout. This shoot was combined with the Surrey CPSA Side by Side Championship so thank you to the members and a few guests who turned up with their ‘once a year’ guns to support this. As ever, Andy had produced a thoughtful layout sympathetic to the Side by Side users and there were some great scores in all classes.
Top of AA (just) was Glen Boxall on 56, while Kevin Scarlett, Jason Strudwick and Andy Willett all finished on 55.
Peter Saich managed to win A Class with his Side by Side scoring 49, one ahead of Des Park.
B Class was tied on 46 but Chris Flanders won on countback from Peter Garland. Just behind them were Ian Parish and John Hughes, both on 45.
Graham Winter had a convincing win in C Class with a personal best 46. Stuart Hulme was second with 42.
There were two Trophies for the Side by Side event. The Mick Haynes Cup presented to the top Surrey CPSA Member, and the Webley and Scott shield for anyone outside of Surrey CPSA.
Chip Smith won the Surrey Trophy for the second year running with a stunning score of 55, five 9’s and a 10. James Faulkner was second with 51 and Peter Saich was third with 49.
In the ‘others’ category, Chris Wells scored 44 to win the Trophy.
Many thanks to all those who came and supported today, and a special thank you to those who came to help set up and stayed to the end to help tidy up and put everything away.
Your assistance is greatly appreciated and helps to get the core team of helpers home earlier.
The next shoot will be the December Handicap with prizes for each member (providing you stay to collect it). There will be a raffle, and we will try and organise a food delivery similar to last year. Look out for details on email or the Club’s website.
