August 2023

The Tony Warsop Memorial Shoot run concurrently with our August shoot at Clandon clashed with the Final of the Women’s football world cup but we still had an average turnout of members.  Glen had a hand again assisting Andy and Matt with the set up, but the scores were back to normal after last month’s challenging layout.  Still not easy to hit but definitely easier to see, except for the driven through the sun on Stand 2.  I think the queue got bigger there whenever a cloud came over.

Mike McCarthy had a return to form and a runaway win with 69.56, while the handicaps calculated by Andy proved to be very accurate, with only two points separating the top scores in AA, A, B and C Classes.

July 2023

Another month where the weather forecast was dire but turned out to be ok.  There was a bit of a gusting breeze but no rain.  Our ‘Guest’ course setter Glen Boxall set us a challenging layout, with most scores 10 targets below their average, but an interesting layout and without targets like that occasionally, you will not improve so well done Glen.  Thank you also to everyone else who helped get set up for a prompt start.

Glen went on to demonstrate that the targets were ‘hittable’ with a top score in AA of 43.  Even he only hit three out of ten on stand two (hard to see green and even harder to see mini!). Second was Kevin Scarlett, just one behind on 42

Des Park also hit 43 to win A Class.  Des missed all ten on stand two, but only missed seven targets on the remaining five stands – Great shooting Des and welcome to AA Class.  Second was Andy Willett with 40.

Top of B Class with 34 was Alex Blackwell with John Martin second on 30.

In C Class, Ron Turner scored a good 35 with Peter Garland runner-up on 31

We had some good help to clear up and finished around an hour earlier than usual which was fantastic – thank you so much to all those who stayed to lend a hand.

Skeet continues on Wednesday evenings at NCSC Bisley – Send Peter Saich a message on 07947 259963 if you would like to come and join in, or if you would like to try Down-the-Line or Sportrap and he will see if it is possible to run it concurrently with our Skeet evenings.

June 2023

Great shoot today with yet more new and entertaining targets, including some green ones that camouflaged themselves against the trees if you were not quick enough!  Attendance was low with only 25 people shooting on Father’s day. The weather forecast was for heavy rain with flood warnings, but the day remained warm and dry throughout, so some of you missed a treat.  Great targets with some good scores.

Matt Oldland had top score with 56, just ahead of Peter Saich on 55.  B class was won by Chris Tailby with 49 with Richard Hill in second on 45.

Charles Duncan was top of C Class with 41 and Stuart Hulme was second with 36.

There were some good scores amongst the Visitors where Geoff Potter scored 47, one ahead of Kevin Stocker while Charlie Brabon was top Junior with 37.

Well done to the class winners, and thank you to the set up and clear up teams.

Don’t forget our Skeet evenings at NCSC Bisley every Wednesday evening from 17.00 to 19.00.  Phone Peter Saich if you want details or directions.

May 2023

29 members and 10 guests returned cards this month.
Andy Wallace followed his 25 at Skeet on Wednesday evening with an exceptional 58 today to win A Class.  In comparison the nearest to that was Kevin Scarlett (AA) with 52 and Peter Saich (A) with 51.  Jim Hackett shooting as a guest also hit 52.
B Class was won by Alan Davis with 48, ahead of Alex Blackwell on 46.  Chris Flanders scored a good 49 in C Class, with Stuart Hulme and Ian Young joint second on 41.
Well done to all who shot and thanks to everyone who helped set up and pack away on Saturday and Sunday.

April 2023

37 members and 10 guests returned scorecards for the April shoot and we welcomed our newest member John Martin to the club.
The weather on the day was kind but conditions under foot were still not so good in places.
Thanks to everyone involved in setting up, running the shoot and packing away afterwards.
Some outstanding scores were achieved, notably for trophy class winners Jerry Sollick (C, 48), Aaron Wiggins (B, 50) and Mike Collins (A, 49). Glen Boxall (AA) was overall high gun with 57. Well done everyone!

March 2023

33 members and 12 guests recorded scores this month on what proved to be a tricky layout for some. The ground conditions after recent wet weather made the setting up and packing away more challenging than usual and an even bigger thanks goes to everyone who was involved.

Class winners this month were Kevin Scarlett (A), Rick Warrington (B) and Ian Parish (C), each being promoted to the next class. Well done all!

Finally, the club offers a warm welcome to our newest member this month: Jason Stredwick.

Thanks to everyone who help set up, run and pack away the shoot this month.

January 2023

Just 27 members and 6 guests took part this month. The ground conditions were very wet which made setting up and packing away more challenging than usual – so a massive thanks to all who helped – and resulted in the course being reduced to 6 stands.

Firstly, welcome to our 2 newest members: Richard Hill and Doug Hodgkiss. Thank you for joining and supporting the Club.

This month was the annual Pairs Handicap competition, where a random draw takes place to see who’s paired with who, and also the 3rd round of the 2022-2023 Winter Series.

The highest score in A Class was achieved by Chris Clark with a quite superb 53, B Class was won by Chris Samuel on 46 and John Hughes topped C Class with 43.
Well done to everyone, this month the scores were less spread out than usual.

The competition was very tight in the Handicap Pairs, with just 4 clays separating the top 5 pairs. In first place and winners of the John Tarryer Cups this year were Ian Young & Matt Oldland with 136.4, just beating the next highest total of 136.0 by Steve Keane & James Faulkner. The full results can be viewed here .

December 2022

Numbers turning up for the Xmas shoot this year were low at just 35 members and 8 guests, no doubt due to the wet and windy weather forecast and our caterer pulling out at the last minute due to local icy conditions first thing.
A deceptively tricky layout over 7 stands caught a fair few of us out this month and it favoured the higher classified club shooters in the handicap competition, more of which later.
In the regular trophy shoot, the trio of Tom Phillips trophies were won in A class by Mike Collins with a very good 43 (on countback, 1 straight to nil over Alex Wells), B class by Steven Keane with an excellent 39 and C class by Chris Grist on 24. Meanwhile in non-trophy AA class our club president Peter Saich was high gun amongst members with 49. Full class results are below.
The outcome of the handicap shoot, with prizes for all shooters – the top 10 receiving a bottle of spirits and the remainder a bottle of wine – was that in first place was Steven Keane, second was Mike Collins and third was Alex Blackwell. Well done everybody!
The full results of the handicap competition can be found here.

A big thank you to everyone who came this month to take part and support the club. Special mentions go to Daren O’Toole who didn’t shoot but amongst other things calculated the results as scorecards were returned, to Peter Saich for organising the raffle and to those who helped set up on Saturday and Sunday and stayed behind to pack away after the shoot in unpleasant conditions.

November 2022

37 members and 12 guests attended the November shoot.
Conditions were wet and muddy, unsurprisingly after the recent weeks of heavy rain, which caused some problems accessing the site and moving trailers and traps around.
This month saw the first in the Winter Series competition both for the club and for Middlesex Woodpigeon guns in attendance.

Andy Willett top scored in AA today with 50, just ahead of James Horrod on 49 and Glen Boxall on 48.
Matt Oldland won A class, finally making it into AA, scoring 52 with a borrowed gun!  Ian Hargreaves was second on 48 and newly promoted Rick Warrington was third with 47.
Jon Watson’s third 44 in a row was good enough to win B class, clear of Chris Flanders and Steven Keane in joint second on 40.
After several runner-up spots, John Hughes won C Class with 42 with Ron Turner in second on 40.

In the Middlesex Woodpigeon Winter Series, Steve Cole takes an early lead on 47, with son David second with 43.

Well done to all of our winners this month and thanks to everyone who helped set up, run and pack away the shoot in testing conditions.
