October 2024 Memorial Shoot Report – Peter Saich
We had a change of day and a change of scenery for our October shoot on Saturday 19th .
We went to Woodland Pursuits near Reigate for a 100 target Memorial Charity shoot with good catering, starting with breakfast rolls on arrival and a two-course lunch while we checked the scores and added the handicaps.
There were 12 varied stands with everything from driven off the high tower to low, fast eyesight tests, and of course the famous Rat target.
AA Class Glen Boxall 90/100
A Class James Horrod 89/100
B Class Jerry Sollick 76/100
C Class Charlie Palmer 56/100
The scores will be rounded to 60% to maintain our monthly Class averages.
In the Handicap event, James Horrod’s excellent score and ‘generous’ handicap put him in first place with 113.75 to win the Tony Warsop Memorial Trophy.
Runner-up with 110.20 was Ian Hargreaves and Glen Boxall was third with 108 despite having the lowest handicap.
Winning the Junior’s Trophy with 97.75 was Otis Oakford.
Top Guest was Douglas Millard on 67.
The Rat Trophy was presented to guest Simon Spencelayh who missed all five rats but interestingly hit all of the more difficult rabbits!

As mentioned above, the Rat ‘forfeit’ raised £83 through a combination of poor shooting and generous donations and the raffle took £160. Thank you all for your support. We will publish at a later date the chosen charities and amounts donated.
Many thanks to Alex, Jane and the team at Woodlands, and thank you to all those involved with retrieving, collecting and erecting the gazebo, calculating handicaps, preparing scorecards and assisting with the raffle – The team never really get a day off but as Sunday morning was very wet and windy it was good that the regular set up team could have a well- deserved day in the dry.
We will be back at Clandon Park on Sunday 17 th November. This will include the Surrey CPSA Side by Side Championship and there will also be a trophy for the highest non Surrey CPSA Side by Side score. You can of course shoot with your ‘Normal’ gun and do not have to use a Side by Side.
